Rob and I are the parents of three grown boys. When the boys were young I managed a child care center for our local church. I enjoyed it very much. I love the children and getting to play with play-dough and finger-paint is a lot of fun! Plus I cook for the hunting lodge here at the ranch. Cooking for 10-20 hungry hunters is about the same as cooking for the groups of teenage boys that always were around when our boys were home! If you need recipes for a bunch, I'm the one to ask!
After the boys were all grown the long drive to and from the ranch became less and less enjoyable, so Rob suggested I find a "Computer Job" I could work from home. So I started searching, first and foremost for ways to save us money on the things we use every day. My Dad always said "Money Saved Is Money Earned". So taking Dads advice to heart I started looking for ways to save money on line. Let me tell you, there is a lot of junk out there but among all the rocks I found a few jewels.
Being the candle lover that I am, naturally I started looking at candles. I found there are some not so good, sorta ok, fair to middlin, and then there are "Gourmet" candles! I was hooked with the first jar! You won't believe how fantastic they smell, and they even burn clean! I thought jar candles were supposed to get all black and gunky, well they most definitely are not! Rob was even impressed! I joined their candle of the month program, and then after a few months decided to start selling them. We even went up north to see where they were made and meet the owners of the company. Were we ever impressed. They treated us just like family and we found the business to be well run with happy employees, not to mention the fantastic way the place smelled! We do our Candle shows in San Antonio, Laredo, and McAllen. Sometimes Rob helps with them, but Jeff our oldest son is there most of the time to give his mom a hand.
My thrift shop "Under The Texas Sky" opened in early 08. Our home and store room were filled to the brim with treasures (maybe a little junk too). It seams a lot of other people have the same problem because donations are often found on the door step and always appreciated. Several people have items on consignment as well. This all keeps me real busy, we hardly have time to fish. I mentioned to my friend how run down I was feeling and he told me about some liquid vitamins he and his wife had started taking and how much better they were feeling and had a lot more energy too. I even found a place to get a discount card for a lot of the items we purchase, granted it isn't wholesale, but it is a saving.
